Book Review: Dead Kings: The Dawnmaiden – by A. J. Wilson

Publication date: May, 2017

Pages: 449

Queen Evelina is the victorious hero of the war that freed her countrymen from tyrannical invaders and her own wicked father. She is revered by the people—mighty of arms, inspired by strategy and relentless in tenacity… thirsty of blood, towering with pride, and cemented in obstinance—she is feared by the people. Old enemies seek her ruin, the fall of her kingdom and a return to power. Known as the Dawnmaiden to those who love her, and as the Bloody Virgin to those that hate her; will Evelina overcome her own flaws and spite, or will she become indistinguishable from the villains she fights? Dead Kings is a character driven fantasy epic in a vast world of warring kingdoms, conquering empires and godlike necromancers.

First, I wish to thank Aaron for sending me his book in return for an honest review. I had so much fun with it. I love reading books about Kings and Queens, I love watching TV Series with Kings and Queens. At this moment, my favorite TV Series is Reign, and if you haven’t watched it yet, you must do it. As well as reading this book. Even though is just fiction, is so awesome.

The cover is done by Darnis Art and I just love it!!! Is one of my favorite covers I’ve ever seen. I know that I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover by I couldn’t help it. When I saw it for the first time I was so enchanted by it that I had high expectations from this book. And thank God, I enjoyed every second I’d spend reading it.

The writing is so easy and clear, and the characters are well contoured. The environment is very good described. What I loved about it the most is the fact that at the end of the book, there are a few pages on which is described every character or phrases. For example, the wizards are called Arcan, or the people who have no magical ability are called Brume.

I just hope that there will be a second book, continuing with Evelina’s adventures.
